I make honest attempts at web UI. Sometimes it's even good.

Once upon a Build

A monologue of the journey I've taken to get where I am today. Feel free to hit the "Skip" button that will appear below if it's too long.

About Me

My full name is Sharvin (ʃɑːrvɪn) Joseph Emmanuel, though online I go by "hazrd." I was born and raised in Malaysia, and I've got African-Indian roots that I'm pretty fond of. Food-wise, Jollof Rice still takes the win in my book, but For any of my malaysian folk reading this, I'm equally at home with a variety of local dishes like Nasi Lemak, Pisang Goreng, and Roti Canai — pronunciations are open to interpretation.

I started out thinking I’d end up in 2D animation when I was 12 years old. I spent a year learning the basics: motion principles, tweening, timelines, the usual. However, turned out drawing frame after frame wasn’t for me. I preferred single illustrations so, naturally, I switched to 3D instead because surely moving into 3D would magically be easier... right? Oddly enough, it was. (for me, at least)

Triangles

I got into Blender and started with the classic Blender Guru donut tutorial, polished my modeling skills, and moved on to basic animation. Blender’s controls were intuitive for the most part, and I even went as far as to install a few quality-of-life plugins to get more out of the software.

My prior understanding of motion principles and experience in general animation helped. Even though rigging character models made me want to pull my hair out, the general process was fun. I played around with Geometry Nodes too. Unfortunately, dardware was a real limiter in the end. No monster GPU, no big projects. and certainly no funds at the age of 13. So I wrapped that chapter and moved on.

Music &
Media

Somewhere along the line, I don't remember when, I piqued an interest in Music Production — particularly in the general Hip Hop / Trap genre, though I don't a preference / expertise. I decided to use FL Studio and learned what general music producing practices are. Although I knew any music theory, I did play piano — self taught & by ear. I can't exactly explain to you what my music sounds like so I’ve selected a track I consider one of my better ones if you want to take a listen.

Posting my music (and other content) to youtube meant I had to learn how to use new Adobe Software. Since I was already familiar with Animate, picking up Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Illustrator (being my forte) being my forte was relatively straightforward. I know what the general consensus is with Adobe as a Company, so trust that I obtain my products properly ;)
